Oracle on Wednesday announced it will provide Singapore's defense technology group "reliable" cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) services. It is the company's inaugural deal in Southeast Asia, where the region is experiencing more and more online threats and supply chain attacks.
The agreement ensures that Singapore's defense ministry and military receive an air-gapped cloud computing system that is not internet-connected. This means that the system will only be connected to private networks using secured devices. This setup enhances internet security by lowering the chances of online attacks and unauthorized entry.
Oracle's Global Defense Chief Technology Officer, Rand Waldron, explained, "We're taking our AI tools across the air gaps and into those private environments." The air-gapped technology will facilitate AI-powered online security and image recognition. "We're taking our AI tools across the air gaps and into those private environments." The technology will facilitate AI-powered online security and image recognition. It will facilitate AI to scan video streams and identify faces, license plates, and vehicle data, which will boost defense awareness.
Oracle did not give the terms of the deal financially, but the company is pumping more money into Southeast Asia. Oracle recently stated that it will invest more than $6.5 billion in constructing a cloud region in Malaysia. That is an indication that Oracle is expanding in the region and trying to provide online security solutions for companies and governments.
Southeast Asian nations are usually prone to online attacks, where hackers attempt to obtain sensitive government information and destroy infrastructure. Oracle aims to promote online security by providing reliable cloud computing services to guard sensitive information against potential online attacks.
Singapore has moved rapidly to take advantage of advanced technology to boost its country's defense. The collaboration with Oracle aligns with the nation's strategy to enhance its defense capabilities in addition to maintaining cybersecurity.
This recent update shows that Oracle is important in defense technology and AI-driven cloud services. As threats online become more advanced, the need for secure, isolated environments will likely grow, and Oracle's skills will become increasingly important in worldwide defense.
