SWISS Geneva will replace two A220-300s with larger A320neos, adding seats on the Geneva-London Heathrow route for summer 2027
Swiss International Air Lines is changing two aircraft at its Geneva Airport base for the 2027 summer season. The airline will take two Airbus A220-300s out of the fleet and put two A320neos in their place. The A220-300 has 145 seats, the A320neo will have 180, so there will be 35 additional seats on each flight.
The aircraft will be used on the Geneva-London Heathrow connection. It is a popular route from Geneva, with British Airways also serving the market. For SWISS Geneva, the change is part of the airline's plan to improve the financial performance of the base. SWISS has said it wants its short-haul operation in Geneva back in the black by 2027.
There are a few practical differences between the two aircraft. The A320neo has more space for cargo and can fly farther. SWISS also says it offers better fuel efficiency, along with lower noise and carbon emissions. Its aircraft are powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines.
CEO Jens Fehlinger said SWISS intends to keep strengthening its Geneva operation. The airline is focusing on routes where passenger demand makes additional capacity worthwhile.
The larger aircraft will add seats without requiring SWISS to add another plane to the route. That matters on a route such as London, where demand can vary considerably between busy and quieter periods.
The Airbus A320neo Geneva deployment is planned for the summer timetable, which starts March 28 and ends October 30, 2027. SWISS is expected to release the remaining schedule details in the coming weeks. SWISS Newsroom
