Sealtest 6% milk is now available in Quebec at Costco and Walmart, giving shoppers a richer milk option with 6% milk fat
Sealtest and Québon have brought their 6% milk to Quebec. The product went on sale in other Canadian provinces, including Ontario, in the spring. It is now being sold at Costco and Walmart in the dairy section.
The Sealtest 6% milk is made with milk and cream. According to the product description, it has a smoother texture and is a source of vitamins A and D. It can be added to tea, yogurt and desserts: Walmart Canada
The Fat Content
The milk's fat level is what sets it apart. A serving contains 9 grams of saturated and trans fats, while 1% milk has 1.5 grams, according to the label.
Nutritionist Isabelle Huot says the product may interest people following high-fat diets, including keto. She does not recommend drinking two glasses every day, however, because of the saturated fat.
Huot said the 9 grams amount represents 48% of the daily value on a 2,000-calorie diet. She described the product as unusual and said how often someone drinks it matters.
Health Canada advises people to limit saturated fat: Health Canada. For people who want high-fat milk, the product offers something different from the usual 1% or 2% options. But the nutrition label is important, especially for anyone already getting a lot of saturated fat from other foods.
The Sealtest 6% milk is now available in Quebec, completing its rollout to the province. The high-fat milk can be found at the two retailers mentioned above.
