European telecom giants Orange and Deutsche Telekom are expanding sovereignty-as-a-service offerings, deploying local language AI models on NVIDIA-powered infrastructure to strengthen cloud independence and digital sovereignty in Europe.

Paris / Bonn — Major European telecommunications groups Orange and Deutsche Telekom are accelerating investments in “sovereignty-as-a-service” cloud solutions, rolling out locally hosted AI models and cloud infrastructure powered by NVIDIA technology, as Europe intensifies efforts to secure digital and technological independence.

The initiatives focus on providing sovereign cloud services and regionally controlled artificial intelligence platforms, enabling governments, enterprises, and regulated industries to store data and deploy AI models within European jurisdictions. The approach is designed to comply with EU data protection rules, including GDPR, while reducing reliance on non-European cloud providers.

Both Orange and Deutsche Telekom are developing local language models (LLMs) optimized for European languages and regulatory environments.
