At the global premiere, CEO Oliver Zipse made his final major appearance in the role, describing the i3 as an “iconic product” and the centerpiece of BMW’s next chapter. The event blended technical ambition with emotional messaging, reinforcing the significance of the moment.

Electric 3 Series Takes Center Stage

The new i3 is BMW’s first fully electric model in the 3 Series segment, a category that has historically defined the brand’s global success. By bringing electrification into this core segment, BMW is moving beyond niche EV offerings and positioning electric vehicles as its new standard.

The i3 follows the introduction of the iX3 SUV and expands the Neue Klasse lineup into the saloon category. This strategic move ensures that BMW’s most important models are part of its electric transformation.

Breakthrough Technology and Performance

BMW is targeting a range of up to 900 kilometers (WLTP) for the i3, alongside ultra-fast charging capabilities of up to 400 kW. These figures aim to significantly improve convenience for EV users, particularly in long-distance driving scenarios.

The vehicle also introduces a new electronic architecture built around four central computing systems. These manage key functions such as driving dynamics, infotainment, and automated driving. At the core is the “Heart of Joy,” an integrated control unit designed to enhance performance and efficiency.

Digital Interior and Software Innovation

Inside the i3, BMW presents a new generation of digital experience. A panoramic display stretches across the dashboard, complemented by a large central screen and advanced head-up display. The system runs on BMW Operating System X, enabling more intuitive and intelligent user interaction.

Voice control has also been enhanced through advanced AI integration, making the interface more natural and responsive for drivers.

Production Transformation in Munich

Munich cold and pathos is not only reflected in the launch event but also in the transformation of BMW’s manufacturing operations. Production of the i3 will begin in August 2026 at the Munich plant, where pre-series vehicles are already being built.

The facility has undergone significant restructuring in a short period, with new assembly and logistics systems introduced while maintaining ongoing production. BMW plans to convert the plant بالكامل to fully electric production shortly after the i3 launch.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability is a key pillar of the i3 program. BMW is increasing the use of recycled materials and reducing emissions across the supply chain. The company’s “design for circularity” approach focuses on improving recyclability and reducing material complexity.
