Honda recalled over 259,000 vehicles in the United States for a brake pedal malfunction that may prevent a driver from being able to stop safely, according to NHTSA records. The malfunction is caused by a defective brake pedal pivot pin that was not securely fastened at the time of production.

The defective vehicles are 2023–2025 Honda Pilots, 2021–2025 Acura TLX, and 2023–2025 Acura MDX. The defect increases the likelihood of unintended brake action, which can result in causing crashes or vehicle loss of control.

Details about the Honda Brake Pedal Recall

The Honda brake pedal recall was necessitated by a series of warranty claims made in February and June of 2024. Honda began investigating the issue in April 2024 when one of its customers complained about the performance of the brake pedal.

Honda determined the issue began in the plant of an American supplier, where the brake pedal pivot pin was not adequately staked. The faulty assembly can move the brake pedal out of position, and that creates a chain of safety issues including:

·         Spongy or abnormal feeling of the brake pedal

·         The sudden illumination of the brake warning lamp

·         Brake lights remain on, even when the pedal isn't pressed

·         Unintended or delayed braking response

Though the flaw is believed to occur in only an estimated 1% of the cars recalled, the company maintained that it needed to move quickly.

No One Injured, But Tests Sought

Luckily, Honda indicates that no injuries or accidents have been linked to the brake pedal issue as of June 2025. Nevertheless, the firm is recommending that its affected owners have the cars inspected.

As part of the recall, Honda and Acura dealers will examine the brake pedal assemblies and replace any faulty components at no cost to owners. Dealer notices are being distributed as of June 13, and mailed owner notifications are set for July 28.

How to Know If Your Car Is Impacted

Customers may determine if their vehicle is part of the Honda brake pedal recall by either:

·         The NHTSA recall search website

·         Honda's official vehicle recall search tool (with the vehicle's VIN)

·         This simple test can help drivers make their vehicle safe and avoid road hazards in the future.

Production Fix Already Implemented

Honda explained that the faulty assembly line in the US was then shut down. Production has then been rerouted to a Mexican factory, where additional quality controls — including camera sensors — are used to ensure correct assembly of the brake pedal pivot pins.

This is aside from Honda's continuous efforts to uphold its record of reliability and safety. Honda is still closely working with regulators and is dedicated to solving concerns as quickly as possible.

Industry-Wide Interest in Auto Safety

The Honda brake pedal recall is only the latest of a series of major recalls in the auto industry. Ford has had recalls this year on hundreds of thousands of SUVs and pickup trucks with several different safety problems, including faulty door trim and faulty rearview camera software.

As there is more regulation and more public attention, auto manufacturers are hurrying more than ever to fix possible defects before they become costly to fix or erode consumer trust.

Final Warning to Drivers

If you own a 2023-2025 Honda Pilot or Acura TLX/MDX in the model years listed, don't wait for them to mail you a letter. Look up your recall status today, receive a free inspection if necessary, and get your car going like it should.

Your brakes are your strongest line of defense on the road. If uncertain — have them checked out.
