The Srinagar Smart City Mission has completed 157 of its 161 sanctioned projects as of March 31, 2026, with 98 per cent of the planned work now finished. The Government of India said projects worth Rs 3,530 crore have been executed against a total sanctioned cost of Rs 3,633 crore.

The update was shared in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu in response to an unstarred question from MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi. According to the minister, the projects were planned at the local level following consultations with citizens and other stakeholders and approved by the State High Powered Steering Committee.

Projects Focus on Urban Development

The Srinagar Smart City Mission has covered several areas of urban development, including smart mobility, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), smart governance, smart energy, and the environment. The broader Smart Cities Mission aims to support locally driven urban development through projects designed around the needs of individual cities. The government said proposals are developed after consultations with citizens and stakeholders.

On accountability, the government said audits of Smart City Special Purpose Vehicles are conducted by the State Auditor General under the Companies Act, 2013.
