Google I/O 2026 begins today with expected announcements around Gemini AI, Android 17, smart glasses, and Google’s future AI devices

Google is preparing to launch its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2026, later today at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. The highly anticipated event is expected to showcase the company’s latest developments in artificial intelligence, Android software, and next-generation hardware technologies.

The “Google I/O 2026” keynote will be led by Google CEO Sundar Pichai and is scheduled to begin at 10 AM Pacific Time, which is 10:30 PM IST for Indian viewers. Audiences worldwide will be able to watch the livestream through Google’s official I/O website and YouTube channel.

Gemini AI Expected to Take Center Stage

Artificial intelligence is likely to dominate the “Google I/O 2026” event, with industry analysts expecting major upgrades to Google’s Gemini AI ecosystem. Reports suggest the company could unveil a new AI video-generation model called Omni alongside enhanced AI-powered Search experiences and updates to Google Labs projects.

Google is also expected to reveal improvements to Flow, its AI-driven music creation platform, by introducing more creative tools and advanced features. The company has recently started branding several premium AI capabilities under the name “Gemini Intelligence,” highlighting its growing focus on AI integration across products and services.

Android 17 and Smart Devices in Focus

Another major highlight of “Google I/O 2026” is expected to be Android 17. While the operating system is currently in beta testing, Google may unveil upcoming features before the wider public release later this year.

Some features already previewed include improved voice-to-text performance, smarter autofill tools, and enhanced digital well-being features. Google is also redesigning parts of Android Auto and introducing refreshed 3D-style emojis.

Apart from software, Google may offer an early preview of its AI-powered smart glasses initiative and discuss Googlebook, its rumored AI-first laptop platform. Technology experts believe the conference will provide a clearer look at how Google plans to compete in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
