Social Security payments begin June 10 for eligible beneficiaries as the 2027 COLA forecast rises to 3.9%, signaling potential benefit increases

Millions of Americans are set to receive their June benefits as the latest Social Security payment schedule begins this week. According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), beneficiaries with birth dates between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their payments on June 10, while additional payments are scheduled for June 17 and June 24 based on recipients' birth dates.

First Wave of June Payments Arrives June 10

The June distribution comes as retirees and beneficiaries closely monitor developments surrounding the projected 2027 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) recently increased its forecast for the 2027 COLA to 3.9%, up from its previous estimate of 2.8%. If the forecast holds, the average retired worker could see monthly benefits rise by more than $81.

Inflation Data Could Signal Future Benefit Increases

The upcoming Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for May 2026, scheduled for release on June 10, is expected to provide important clues about inflation trends. While the report will not directly determine the 2027 COLA, experts say it offers an early indication of whether inflation is accelerating, stabilizing, or declining.

The official COLA calculation is based on inflation data from July, August, and September. However, economists and retirees alike are watching current inflation reports for insight into where benefit adjustments may be headed.

Social Security Payment Schedule for June 2026

Under the current Social Security payment schedule, beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of the month will receive payments on June 17, while those born between the 21st and 31st will receive benefits on June 24.

The SSA advises recipients who do not receive their payment on the expected date to wait three additional mailing days before contacting the agency. Social Security offices will also be closed on June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday.

Retirees Closely Watching the 2027 COLA Forecast

The growing attention on the Social Security payment schedule reflects broader concerns about inflation and retirement income. Earlier this year, Social Security recipients received a 2.8% COLA increase, boosting monthly payments by an average of approximately $56.

With inflation data and future benefit adjustments under close scrutiny, many retirees will be watching economic reports throughout the summer as officials prepare to calculate the official 2027 COLA.

The announcement is expected in October, and the latest Social Security payment schedule serves as a reminder of the program's critical role in supporting millions of Americans.
