Sony Xperia 1 VIII Debuts with Bold Redesign and Premium Features

Sony Xperia 1 VIII launches with a bold redesign, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, 48MP cameras, headphone jack, and premium flagship features

Sony has officially unveiled its newest flagship smartphone, bringing a fresh design and high-end hardware to its premium Xperia lineup. The Sony Xperia 1 VIII arrives with a revamped exterior, upgraded internals, and features that continue to appeal to photography enthusiasts and Android power users alike. 

The smartphone keeps several signature Xperia elements, including front-facing stereo speakers, a tall cinematic display ratio, and a dedicated camera shutter button. However, the device now sports a more squared-off camera module positioned in the upper-left corner, giving the handset a noticeably different appearance from previous generations. Sony says the phone’s textured finish is inspired by natural stone and is part of its new “Ore” design philosophy.

Flagship Hardware Powers the Xperia Experience

Under the hood, the device packs serious flagship power. It features a 6.5-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, paired with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Storage options include 256GB and 1TB variants, while RAM configurations go up to 16GB. One standout feature is support for microSD card expansion and a 3.5mm headphone jack, both of which have become rare in modern flagship smartphones.

Battery performance may be a concern for some users due to the 5,000mAh battery, but Sony includes 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging support.

Camera Upgrades and Limited Availability

Camera performance remains a key focus. The rear setup includes a 48MP primary sensor, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a new 48MP telephoto camera with 2.9x optical zoom. Sony has also included a 12MP selfie camera for video calls and content creation. The Sony Xperia 1 VIII continues the brand’s focus on mobile photography and multimedia features.

The smartphone is currently available for pre-order across the UK and Europe, starting at €1,499 and £1,399 respectively. Buyers also receive free WH-1000XM6 headphones with pre-orders. Unfortunately, Sony has confirmed that the Sony Xperia 1 VIII will not launch in the United States.
