Golden Globes 2026 crowned One Battle After Another and Hamnet as top winners, with Timothée Chalamet and Jessie Buckley taking major acting honors

Dark comedy One Battle After Another and historical drama Hamnet emerged as the biggest winners on Sunday at the Golden Globes 2026, marking a strong start to Hollywood’s annual awards season in Beverly Hills, California. The ceremony, voted on by more than 300 entertainment journalists, once again set the tone for the race toward the Academy Awards in March.

Big Wins for Film Categories

At the Golden Globes 2026, One Battle After Another, a Warner Bros Discovery production directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, was named Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. The film, which follows a group of washed-up revolutionaries, picked up four awards in total, including Best Director and Best Screenplay for Anderson. Teyana Taylor also won Best Supporting Female Actor for her role in the film.

Meanwhile, Hamnet claimed the Best Motion Picture – Drama prize. The film imagines how William Shakespeare and his wife grappled with the death of their 11-year-old son, an event historians believe inspired Hamlet. The emotionally charged drama was widely praised for its storytelling and international collaboration.

Acting Honors Steal the Spotlight

One of the most competitive moments of the Golden Globes 2026 came in the acting categories. Timothée Chalamet won Best Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy for portraying a professional table tennis player in Marty Supreme. He edged out heavyweight nominees including Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney.

“I’d be lying if I didn’t say losing in past years made this moment much sweeter,” Chalamet said, calling the category “stacked.”

In drama, Jessie Buckley won Best Female Actor for her portrayal of Agnes Hathaway in Hamnet. Buckley highlighted the film’s diverse creative team, noting its Chinese director and largely European crew.

International and TV Highlights

Beyond Hollywood, Brazilian film The Secret Agent won Best Non-English Language Film, while its star Wagner Moura took Best Male Actor in a Drama, surprising many observers at the Golden Globes 2026. Veteran actor Stellan Skarsgård also earned a supporting award for Norwegian family drama Sentimental Value.

On the television side, medical series The Pitt won Best Drama, while The Studio claimed Best Comedy. Warner Bros Discovery led all companies with nine wins overall.

As the Golden Globes 2026 wrapped up, the ceremony reinforced its reputation as a key predictor—and powerful spotlight—for awards season contenders.
