Non-profit business PlanetPlay is presenting its Green Games Showcase on June 7, 2025, at Summer Game Fest, a highly awaited international gaming festival every year. The showcase will present a handpicked set of eco-friendly video games 2025, with the aim of raising awareness regarding climate change, sustainability, and the power of play to build a better world.
The tournament will be hosted live in front of an audience by renowned gaming journalist Will Freeman, a regular contributor to GamesIndustry.biz. It will feature innovative games that entertain and inform, created by leading studios like Amazon Games, Lockwood Publishing, Sharkmob, Team17, Netspeak Games, and Wicked Saints Studios.
Climate Action Through Gameplay
PlanetPlay's vision extends far beyond the promotion of green games. The company is committed to actually making a positive impact on the environment. The objective for this campaign is to raise $300,000 by June 30, 2025, to fund the planting of 50,000 trees in Timor-Leste, a country severely affected by deforestation. This reforestation project will be achieved through collaboration with WithOneSeed, a local non-profit dedicated to long-term land restoration.
Gaming groups, according to PlanetPlay CEO Rhea Loucas, have untapped potential for climate campaigning:
"This is not an exhibition, it's an appeal. The gaming community is one of the most enthusiastic and creative forces on the planet."
Industry Leaders Join the Conversation
In addition to increasing the reach of the showcase, PlanetPlay ambassador and gaming legend Ian Livingstone will also appear live at the event for a Q&A session. He will be joined by Freeman to discuss how games can drive change on climate and encourage gamers to take concrete action in their own lives.
Livingstone is among four new ambassadors PlanetPlay welcomed last month, including actress Briana Evigan and Formula E world champion Pascal Wehrlein, who are equally passionate about sustainability and digital activism.
Players Are Making a Difference Already
PlanetPlay has recently released fresh findings from its Play2Act survey, which it conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). It's good news: nearly 50% of gamers indicated that they made sustainable changes—like decreasing electricity consumption or purchasing in-game items online—after playing climate-themed games.
These findings verify that climate-friendly video games 2025 are able to influence behavior and help players become part of the solution.
Join the Green Gaming Movement
The environmentally friendly video games 2025 exhibition is not just an event—it's a movement in the making. Developers are more and more creating games that incorporate environmental storytelling, resource management systems, and real-world impact projects.
As the trend picks up steam, the world of gaming is demonstrating that sustainability and fun do indeed go together.
So, if you care about the planet and you enjoy gaming, mark June 7, 2025, in your calendar and tune into the Green Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest. Let's change gaming together as not just a source of enjoyment, but as a force for change on a global scale
