cloud computing and infrastructure
Alibaba Cloud, the technology foundation of Alibaba Group, caused a stir at the Alibaba Cloud Spring Launch 2025 with the launch of a wave of robust AI models, cloud enhancements, and easy-to-use SaaS tools. With a focus on the growing demand for digital transformation, the enhancements are designed to make artificial intelligence and cloud computing more accessible, scalable, and affordable for businesses worldwide.
"We are launching a series of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and AI capability upgrades to meet the growing needs of digital transformation from across the globe," said Selina Yuan, President of International Business, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. "These upgrades allow us to offer even more secure and high-performance services that empower businesses to scale and innovate in an AI world."
AI Models Go Global
In the Alibaba Cloud Spring Launch 2025, the firm made global availability of its in-house large language model (LLM) series called Qwen. They are:
· Qwen-Max, a scale-up Mixture of Experts (MoE) model
· QwQ-Plus, robust reasoning AI for hard questions and math
· QVQ-Max, a visual reasoning model for multimodal tasks
· Qwen2.5-Omni-7b, a full multimodal model
These models are now accessible via Alibaba Cloud's Singapore availability zones, enabling customers around the globe to leverage some of the world's leading-edge AI capabilities today.
Infrastructure Boost for Smarter AI
To enable mass applications of AI, Alibaba Cloud has rolled out significant revamps in its Platform for AI (PAI). Key enhancements are:
· Distributed inference for multi-node architecture
· Prefill-decode disaggregation, boosting tokens-per-second (TPS) by 91%
· A better PAI-Model Gallery with close to 300 open-source models, all deployable with zero code
These refreshes offer companies and startups affordable and scalable means of developing, testing, and deploying AI models.
Integrated Data and AI Solutions
In its bid to optimize AI development, Alibaba Cloud natively integrated its Qwen-driven inference capabilities into its cloud-native database, PolarDB, minimizing latency and improving data security. It also integrated AnalyticDB into its Model Studio platform — ideal for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) use cases requiring real-time access to proprietary data.
SaaS Applications for Any Business
One of the highlights of the Alibaba Cloud Spring Launch 2025 was the announcement of the general availability of new SaaS-based AI solutions, designed to drive enterprise-wide digital transformation.
· AI Doc: Streamlines document processing for reports, invoices, and handbooks. Perfect for Alibaba's Energy Expert sustainability reporting solution
· Smart Studio: A cutting-edge platform that generates marketing content using text-to-image and text-to-video functionalities. Ideal for retail, gaming, and education sectors
These technologies enable businesses to build, automate, and analyze with simplicity, supported by Alibaba's growing AI ecosystem.
New Search and Partner Support for AI
Alibaba Cloud also rolled out a new AI search assistant on its site, driven by Qwen. The intelligent feature helps companies, especially SMEs, find the correct solutions and training resources at high speed.
In a bid to improve its partner ecosystem, Alibaba Cloud introduced improved incentive policies, higher commission rates, and improved training to empower resellers and distributors in the world.
Supported by $53 billion of Investment
Earlier this year, Alibaba Group invested $53 billion (RMB 380 billion) over three years to supercharge its cloud and AI infrastructure. The record-breaking investment is a testament to Alibaba's long-term focus on cloud technology and innovation growth.
With a global infrastructure of 87 availability zones in 29 regions, Alibaba Cloud is well on the path to becoming one of the top AI and cloud providers in the global market.
